As many of you know, we met whilst we were both studying at the University of Lincoln way back in 2012. We were two clueless freshers, brand new to uni life—nervous, excited, and pretending we knew what we were doing. Both of us had signed up for the filmmaking society, probably hoping to meet new people and maybe find our Spielberg moment. At the very first meeting, we were told to split into groups for a filmmaking challenge. Chloe arrived with a couple of her new flatmates and, without missing a beat, formed a perfectly sized group of three. Tom showed up with his new friends and—clearly thinking they were directing Lord of the Rings—formed a group of seven.

Enter the society president, who quickly shut that down and demanded someone from the mega-group move over to the smallest one. Silence. Awkward glances. No one budged. Then Tom stepped up and agreed to join Chloe’s group. And just like that, a simple group shuffle ended up being the start of something much bigger.

Clearly, fate was doing its thing, because within a week, they were officially a couple. Fast forward through over a decade of adventures: surviving three years of Uni, long-distance relationship after uni, Chloe moving to London, and then moving in together, navigating the chaos of Covid, buying their own flat, adopting two cats (Matilda and Xena – who are surrogate children and now run their lives or who now run the house like tiny, furry overlords), and most importantly, Chloe patiently waiting several years for Tom to propose. Spoiler alert: he did!

DRESS CODE

The colour theme for the wedding is burgundy, with jewel tone accent colours as shown by the colour swatches below. However that does not mean that these colours are off limits. We won’t be having a strict dress code so feel free to put your best (or most comfortable) outfit on and don’t forget to bring your dancing shoes!

RSVP DEADLINE

Please make sure you RSVP before the deadline on the 30th of June 2025!

The White Hart Hotel is located in the heart of historic Lincoln in the Cathedral Quarter, at the top of Steep Hill nestled between medieval Lincoln Castle - built on the site of a roman fort - and Lincoln Cathedral which was once the tallest building in the world! Below we’ve put some details on the best ways to get here, recommended hotels, and other useful details.

RAIL

Lincoln is a well connected city by road and rail, with direct rail links to London Kings Cross on the LNER route from the south, and links to Hull via Doncaster, Manchester via Sheffield, and Birmingham via Nottingham. The train station is located near the centre of town, with many hotels and amenities within walking distance. Outside the train station is a taxi rank for licensed black cabs, alternatively Uber does operate in Lincoln. See below for more details of other taxi companies.

More information about Lincoln Train Station can be found here.

ROAD

If travelling by car we recommend using your satnav, however we’ve found the best routes to Lincoln are:
From London/The South - Via A1, onto the A46 at Newark-on-Trent.
From Hull - Over the Humber Bridge and onto the A15 via the M180.
From Manchester/North West - Either M62, onto M18, M180, and finally A15 OR on the A57 via Sheffield.
From Birmingham/West Midlands - A46 via Leicester.

Parking in Lincoln can be quite tricky in our experience, especially at the top of Steep Hill as many of the spaces in the car parks are taken up by tourists visiting the Castle & Cathedral, and often the side roads have parking restrictions. There are lots of other car parks in Lincoln though. More information on parking is available from the Lincoln City Council Website here.

If you are staying at the White Hart Hotel, they have recently expanded and added guest parking. Parking spaces need to be pre-booked with the hotel reception and costs £10 per vehicle, per night, with spaces are available from 1pm on your arrival date to 12pm on the day of your departure.

If you are not staying at the White Hart Hotel then make sure you leave enough time to find a parking space before making your way to the ceremony.

AIRPORTS

For those of you attending from overseas and will be flying into the UK we would recommend flying into Gatwick or Heathrow. In our opinion the direct rail links into Central London where you can then take an onward train from Kings Cross make this easiest journey. However depending on the available flights to and from your airport of departure it may also be possible to fly to Birmingham or Manchester if that would be your preference.

RECOMMENDED HOTELS

The White Hart Hotel has rooms available and makes for the easiest commute to and from the wedding! Alternatively there is a wide range of hotels and B&Bs in Lincoln, from hotel chains such as Premiere Inn, Holiday Inn, Double Tree by Hilton, and Travelodge to independents such as The Queen in The West (which is also a pub that Tom and Chloe used to frequent during their time at university). There is also a number of small boutique hotels in the Cathedral Quarter meaning you won’t have to travel up and down Steep Hill!
